My guess is probably just the hair is growing. It has been a few weeks or more right?
My girls get their roots latched every 4-6 weeks.

Oh and I wanted to add that you can wash and condition locks like regular hair.
You just need to rinse really well after conditioning.
I use watered down shampoo and conditioner on the girls every week. And do a deep wash/ condition once a month with clarifying shampoo and an apple cider vinegar rinse.
It looks like growth to me. It's okay if the tester locks come out as they will be taken out for the installation any way. I'v had my sisterlocks for 9 years now. Cassidy's hair should lock well with any method.
