and I was among the number who were immediately drawn to him by the
power and originality of "Gallegher,"
the story which first made his reputation. My intimate association with
him, however, was while he was with my regiment
in Cuba, He joined us immediately after landing, and was not merely
present
at but took part in the fighting. For example, at the Guasimas fight it
was
he, I think, with his field-glasses, who first placed the trench from
which the Spaniards were firing at the right wing of the regiment,
which right wing I, at that time, commanded. We were then able to make
out the trench, opened fire
on it, and drove out the Spaniards. He was indomitably cheerful under
hardships
and difficulties
and entirely indifferent
to his own personal safety or comfort. He so won the esteem and regard
of the regiment that he was one of the three men we made honorary
members of the regiment's association.

Beef and Barley in the Crock Pot from Pam :)

Ingredients:
1-1/2 pounds beef stew meat
1 tablespoon canola oil
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup diced celery
1 cup sliced fresh carrots
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
4 cups beef broth
2 cups water
1 cup spaghetti sauce
2/3 cup medium pearl barley
1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
2 teaspoons salt
1-1/2 teaspoons dried basil
3/4 teaspoon pepper
Directions:
In a large skillet, brown meat in oil over medium heat; drain. Meanwhile, in a 5-qt. slow cooker, combine the vegetables, broth, water, spaghetti sauce, barley and seasonings. Stir in beef. I was inspired by another mama who blogs to find sometime today to sit and catch up on where the kids are at, what they are up to and just life.

2009 was a difficult year for us. A lot went on, a lot changed and a lot became more difficult. That said, God never left our mist. He supplied our every need and many of our wants... always faithful.
We entered into the new year strong, but with a few HUGE hurdles to cross. The end of 2009 showed me so clearly what wonderful, giving friends we have that love us so very much. I am so thankful! I have had to learn what it means to be humble and receive when my heart always wants to be the giver...

Dec 27th brought about a 16 year old at our house! Richard is a real teenager( 13, 14 and 15 are "young teens", and I have to say this is probably my favorite age after infancy!! He has his moments, but for the most part he is so awesome to be around. He is very involved in our church's youth program, which is where he met his now girlfriend Erica. She is such a love, we couldn't be happier about the two of them and how they are handling their relationship.
Football training just started back up, so he is back to the grind with the team lifting and working out 4 days a week and is meeting with a math tutor at home weekly trying to fill in some gaps I think I left when homeschooling him for 9 years! Seems like he is so busy anymore, I wish he was home more. It scares me to think that I only have 2 short years left with him here full time before college... OK I am not even going to go there!! Next I will write about Jarrod, where he is, what he's up to etc...., I think I have to take each kid one at at time with this old brain of mine :))

there are lots of wonderful awesome things people say. I want to start saying that because I don't want it to seem like it's all bad. But as good as the good feels to hear, the bad burns to the core.
Zoe has been, well.........three. She is VERY three. I guess it's normal that there are days I actually cry that my kids are growing so fast. What I wouldn't do to have an infant in the house. Then there are the days when Zoe reminds me that I am fully ready to move on. To be the mom that doesn't have any babies or toddlers. She can tire me painfully, and can wear out the whole family in one night just taking turns keeping her out of trouble, keeping her from screaming, making her feel secure. And it isn't easy.
I made the mistake of "venting" to a few distant family members and one not so distant. Just light hearted talk about how she is going thru that toddler stage that can be really difficult at times.
The responses I got back were heart wrenching to me. It's not a joke, and it's the furthest thing from funny. I take deep offense to these comments about my children and honestly they cause me to feel bitter. I honestly think they meant to be funny, but one of them is a mother! How could she especially not know how hurtful it would be. Both comments revolved around her being a stinker lately (said by me) the the responses were about, "you can give that one back tho right?"
My heart is broken. How can I ever feel the same way? To me that has permanently and forever changed my relationship,.....only God can heal such a deep wound. Please pray.

I don't know about you, but I can't stand it!! I just cried and cried. Not only because she is getting so big so fast, but I am handing her over to someone else for part of the day, and because I miss her so much when she isn't here. All that said, she got the most WONDERFUL K teacher, I just LOVE her. Great diversity in Cassidy's class and most importantly, Cass loves it SOOOOO much!!!!!!!
BTW, we were in the store, and she picked out all the sperates for this outfit and brought them to me and says I like this mom. Wow, She did pretty darn good!! I thought she looked adorable :)

There is one other brown sugar baby girl in her class, and I saw her mom at Back to school night and guess what?????? The mom has SISTERLOCKS!! I didn't get a chance to meet her or talk to her, but I am sure she will see Cass at some point and notice they both have them :)

**THREE** Great Danes????

I know I am crazy, but my husband must be a saint. First is our girl Bree who is 16 months and her color is referred to as seal, which is not a real color for great danes, but we think she is beautiful!!) she is 101 pounds.

Kobe is our little boy who is 6 months old and a brat like crazy!! He acts like a 3 yr old little boy!! But he is Cassidy's favorite and he loves her more than anyone in the house :) He is white with black markings and 75 pounds.
He was just altered last week poor guy :(

Then, we just got Reggie :) Oh can I tell you what a love he is!!!!! All of our danes are rescues and Regg came from a wealthy home in NJ where the family has another home in another state and they were leaving him home alone A LOT with just a dog sitter to come. He had seperation anxiety so bad that they knew he wasn't happy there. they had bought him from a breeder in Oaklahoma as a puppy, so I know he wasn't abused, just not loved on enough and not enough attention.
that said, he is FAT. Not than I'm not, but this dog is HUGE. I just about passed out when I saw out big he was. Not that I wasn't expecting a full grown male great dane, but over weight big time. He is at least 200 pounds. guess he just ate and laid on the sofa? We have a vet appt on Thursday to see what is really going on. Reggie is 3 and the Brindle colored one.

Anyway, here they are!!

One hundred ears of corn. Shucked, scrapped and cooked............something my southern mama does every summer, but never this BIG amount :) We had to bring in the troops for help!! Lots of family means lots of corn!!

Zoe's heartbreaking hair pulling during sleep has left her with only one round growth of hair about 6 inchs long and the rest pulled to about 1/4 inch. So tonight the boys got a buzz to match Zoe :) Hopefully now she will leave it be and it will have a chance to grown in even :)

Terry has been working hard both jobs, for himself during the day and for the company at night where we are getting benefits and all. So we don't see him much and honestly, it seems no matter how hard he hits it, we can't seem to get behind the eight ball. Can't get caught up on bills:(

Summer isn't real exciting cause going places and all costs money, but the kids are doing projects in the house, the boys are working with Terry, working out on their body building stuff, and hanging out with friends and girl friends.

Cassidy is doing SO awesome with the bathroom thing! She has been dry 90% of the time and a lot of times even at night the last few nights!! Pop-pop owes her a dinner out and she hasn't forgotten it either :)

Zoe is in her bratty stage. If she isn't attached to me or VERY engaged in something very entertaining, she is yellin and screamin. Her verbal skills are real slow coming, she knows more signs than words, but she is frustrated I am sure. However, she has been rippin off her diaper and running to the potty a few times a day without warning!! We weren't even thinking about potty training her yet, but she is proving to be ready!!

As for me, finally got to the dr and had some routine bloodwork and stuff done. He had to add another blood pressure medication to keep that down and something came back on the test with my liver. So I went for an ultrasound of that and it turns out it's fat. Yep, I even have a fat liver! so back for more bloodwork, fasting this time for cholesterol and all that. So those came back yucky. I have to lose weight and get my choleserol and tryglcerides under control and soon. I am sure I will be going for more testing because the numbers were pretty high.

Presleigh made her first batch of Chicken and Dumplings today under my supervison and she did awesome!! Guess she is next in the family line to learn the way :)

Teenagers making me a little nuts. Richard shot the huge back window out of my van with a B gun the other day, so that was fun, and he had to work with dad to pay for it too!!

I have a goal of as close to a gallon of water a day as possible, so I am running to you know where every 3 minutes!

Here they are, my beautiful babies :) Cassidy's locks are 9 months in
here. This was just a few weeks ago.

Summer has been sort of crazy so I haven't written much, but tried to keep up with some pictures :)
Terry's self employment venture proved to be very bad timing with the economy, so he is still doing it during the day and works a second shift job at night.

The kids and I went to the shore for a week to my dad's beach house. I thought it was gonna be nuts with just me and the 6 of them, but it was a JOY!! I didn't want to ever leave. Dad took the week off his second shift job to spend the week we were gone working a huge contracting job and he worked hard, hired help, it was a BIG job,,,,,,,and long story short, they aren't paying.
So, that has been a HUGE financial blow to us. But God has never let us go hungry or without, and we trust in HIM :)

We found a new loctitian like I mentioned who lives SO much closer although we will miss Mrs. Denise very much!! Ms. Doris is lots of fun, and did a great job on Cassidy's retightening! Her hair just keeps getting longer and longer!!
I have to admit, being very full of nerve, have half a mind to approch black wemen and say, " you don't have to straighten your beautiful curls" Then run like hell cause I don't have any business acting like I know anything about black hair, living as a black woman or anything else.

I just love all the woman we see with locks and sisterlocks. Who could deny the beauty of it? God doesn't create anything wrong, only beautiful. And since I am in this honest feelings mood, is it wrong for me to wish the first family would not spend so much energy hiding their black characterisitcs? The President is white and black from what I know, the first lady is black. Would the people of the US look at them diferently if they looked more like an African American family? If Michele and the girls were to wear their hair natural would our President be seen in a different light? It sadens me....

Anyway, I don't know what that has to do with anything really other than I don't want my 2 youngest daughters to spend one minute of their life not proud of their African heritage, who they are, where they come from. That is not how God intended it. Precious girls made in the image of GOD himself.

Ms. Doris, our new loctician did shed some light on things for me. Now this is not everyone's thoughts by any means, but for her as a black woman, she told me she had decided before we even got there that she didn't understand what business i thought I had adopting one of theirs. And it wasn't right, and what were my intentions? During the hours we were there, she saw me comfort and hold her, she saw her sister's serving her lunch and just basically being spoiled like she is :) Ms Doris said she had a change of heart that day. I never really thought much about the black community thinking I would adopt her to hurt her or anything like that!! Would people think that of me? She is my blessing, my gift from God and she is cherished :)

She is also three and getting into everything while I sit and type so I have to run for now. From the bottom of my heart I hope not to have upset anyone in anyway. And I hope you enjoy seeing Cassidy's picture and how awesome her locks look!!!
